AGEING SMART CITIES
ACCEPLAN participates at the Smart City Expo World Congress (17-19 November) in Barcelona.
Fernando Alonso López participates on the discussion "INTERNET OF THINGS IN THE AGEING SMART CITY- A FOCUS ON HEALTHCARE", at the "SMART CITIES AND AGEING SOCIETIES" workshop promoted by JEUPISTE (Japan-EU Partnership in Innovation, Science and Technology).
One of the main goals for Internet of things-powered smart cities is to improve citizens’ quality of life in a variety of ways, including measures to promote eco-friendly, sustainable environments as well as the delivery of “connected health/care” services to citizens at home and on the move. In particular, the deployment of health care services for elder people is one of the most highly impacting areas, thus demanding substantial efforts for the industrial and scientific communities, to deal with aspects related to dependability, low-latency, security or privacy, to name a few. This workshop on smart cities and ageing pop-ulation will focus on the innovation value chain, bringing research to market in a EU-Japan comparative perspective. The EU-Japan cooperation is foreseen to bring major ad-vantages and essential contributions to tackle main challenging issues in getting the most out of smart cities to benefit elder population.
You can find more information about the workshop on this link.

EUROCITIES LISBON 2015
ACCEPLAN has attended the conference of EUROCITIES held in Lisbon  the 18-19 June 2015, under the title CITIES FOR ACCESSIBILITY, JOBS AND INCLUSION, and organized jointly with the cities of Lisbon and Berlin.

Besides the official aims of the conference, stemming largely from its title, the high institutional attendance that it had can be highlighted. Starting with Lisbon itself, which hosted the event, there has been a high-level presence of many European cities: Berlin, Paris, Ljubljana, Oslo, Gothenburg, Barcelona, Leipzig, Eindhoven ... All these cities have some form of programs dedicated to improving accessibility, often framed in larger projects. For example, Lisbon, with its pedestrian plan, or Ljubljana with its historical center close to vehicular traffic, or Oslo with his experience of pilot-friendly neighborhoods with the elderly people.

Accessibility can be reached from different sources: mobility plans, active aging, urban renewal, rehabilitation ... demonstrating that this is an issue that is catching transversely in the different municipal policies and rising on the agenda of priorities.

Eurocities has a creative role to perform in this field by supporting and coordinating activities of the various cities as well as gathering information, disseminating and promoting comparative analysis. One of the issues raised at the conference that require long-term work and vision is to standardize certain technical criteria in Europe. This would represent a giant step for the generalization of accessibility in all its cities.
WIDER PROJECT
The Generalitat of Catalonia has participated through ACCIÓ in the European project  WIDER, together with 6 other European regions in the Mediterranean area. The project, which ended its activities in June 2015, has been funded by the European Commission. WIDER has focused on the changes and challenges that entails the aging population.

Among other activities, grants to 6 Catalan PIMES have been awarded  to develop pilot projects in eco-smart housing for the elderly and to propose innovative solutions for the promotion of active and healthy aging at home, adapting homes for older people and making them intelligent and sustainable.

In April 21, 2015 took place at ACCIÓ (Paseo de Gracia 129, Barcelona) the final event of the WIDER project in Catalonia with the title "Innovative solutions for active aging at home". This final event will showcase the findings of WIDER, the results of the aid granted to pilot projects, besides providing a debate to companies, researchers and experts on active aging at home.

Fernando Alonso Lopez, director of ACCEPLAN, will moderate the panel discussion "Aging in Catalonia. What seniors expect about their aging ."

The seminar was attended by different institutions and actors of Mexico and Spain (mainly universities in the Spanish case), in order to exchange experiences and develop a proposal for progress in various areas related to accessibility and technology.

As a result of the lectures, panels and workshops, we obtained a final Declaration  with different proposals to be raised  to the Government of Mexico and other institutions in order to improve the inclusion of people with disabilities in this country. Among them we cite the proposed creation of a Mexican center for personal autonomy and support products, the development of methodology for functional adaptation of old aged  and disabled people's housing, or diagnosis and mapping of accessibility in a rural marginal colony Mexico City.

We wish the Lindavista Center and the institutions and individuals involved big success in the implementation of these proposals, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to discuss formulae to promote the accessibility and integration of people with functional limitations in Mexico.
